Chamagne and Seashells - why Porthtowan makes the perfect romantic getaway

There are lots of great reasons to visit Seashells Porthtowan for a romantic grown-up break.  If you come in May or September, the village is quieter than in peak season and can be absolutely lovely in the warm late spring or early autumn sunshine.  Seashells is beautifully decorated with lots of little touches to make it extra special, and nothing beats snuggling up on the sofa with your loved one, glass of wine in hand, just watching the ever changing sea, chatting and laughing.

The beach is of course just a short stroll away and is perfect for sunbathing, playing in the waves and exploring the many sea caves and interesting rock formations between Porthtowan and Chapel Porth at low tide.  Blue beachside bar/restaurant, The Unicorn village pub and The Jolly Fryer fish and chips are also a stone's throw from Seashells for a romantic meal out or in as the sun goes down. For something a bit special, try The Old School Bar and Kitchen gastropub at nearby Mount Hawke or Fitty Pysk beachside restaurant with fab sea views at Trevaunance Cove.

If you like walking, nothing beats the South West Coast Path, right on your doorstep, with its spectacular scenery, little coves and picturesque hamlets that you would otherwise probably never see. There are some fab options for a delicious meal or cream tea at the end of a long and exhilarating hike - try Driftwood Spars historic pub or Ghenki cafe at Trevaunance Cove, or Godrevy Cafe (a personal favourite) or The Rockpool cafe and bar at Gwithian, before catching one of the coastal buses back to Seashells.  If you would like to venture further afield, take the car and explore other sections of the coast path - we particularly recommend the stretch to the west of St Ives for rugged, untouched beauty and the fantastic Zennor Chapel Cafe, or the sections around Lizard Point with it's lovely little cafe and beautiful clear waters.

For a special evening out, you couldn't get more romantic than the fabulous Minack Theatre, nestled into the cliffs with a spectacular seascape backdrop, about half an hour from Porthtowan.  Wrap up warm and take a champagne picnic, complete with a few extra special goodies (strawberries and cream always go down well).  After the show, take a moonlight walk on lovely Porthcurno beach at the foot of the cliff, or even a swim if you're feeling brave enough!

If you would like to push the boat out and treat your loved one to something really special, how about a day trip to the beautiful Isles of Scilly.  You can travel on the Scillonian from Penzance if you enjoy boat trips (about 2 1/2 hours - keep an eye out for dolphins and porpoises along the way) or by Skybus from St Just (about 20 mins) if you would like a bit longer on the islands.  The Isles of Scilly are absolutely stunning, with their array of sub-tropical plants, white sands, crystal clear waters and abundance of deserted beaches.  You can take a small boat to one of the off islands, some of which you can walk around in just a few hours, enjoying stunning views of the archipelago and the glittering waters that surround it.  Don't miss out on the lovely little tea rooms and cafes that litter the islands - we particularly recommend Juliet's Garden for stunning views over St Mary's harbour and it's fantastic selection of homemade cakes, crab salads, local seafood specials and much more...

Don't forget that we offer gift vouchers if you would like to treat that special someone, for a special anniversary or simply for a romantic getaway from it all.  The perfect valentine's gift perhaps? We can provide vouchers for any monetary value, price period or specific week or weekend, subject to availability, and can put any photo from our website on the voucher.  Just get in touch for more details.  We hope to see you at Seashells soon for your perfect couples getaway!
