Great places to eat in west Cornwall

There are some great places to eat in Porthtowan, just a short stroll from Seashells, but if you would like to venture a bit further afield, here are some of our favourite cafes and restaurants within a short drive of the village.

Godrevy beach cafe is a lovely place to grab a bite to eat, with its cosy chalet style decor and fab location next to glorious Gwithian beach and the spectacular walk around Godrevy headland to view the lighthouse and the beach where the seals have made their home. Enjoy a selection of cakes, a refreshing ice cream or delicious lunch, from sandwiches to salads, hotpots, fish dishes and more. A great afternoon out, just 20 minutes from Seashells.

The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay is in a great location right on the beach, has a laid back, funky atmosphere and is fantastic for a slap up lunch or a cosy hot chocolate (fully loaded with cream and marshmallows of course!) after a refreshing stroll on the beach.

Dishes are made with local ingredients and items such as moules mariniere, Cornish crab spaghetti and red onion and Cornish gouda tart sit nicely with more traditional dishes like local fish and chips or Cornish beef burger. Their puddings and kids menu are great too. And all with a fabulous view to boot!

Or, if you would like to really push the boat out, how about a meal at the spectacular Headland Hotel, overlooking beautiful Fistral beach in Newquay.

This stylish and historic building first opened in 1900 as the finest hotel in southwest England, and offers high ceilings, chandeliers and ornate decor along with spectacular views over the beach and out to sea in three directions.

It's Terrace restaurant offers 'cool coastal dining', with floor to ceiling windows, crisp decor and a relaxed selection of fresh local seafood, chargrilled cuts of the finest meats, hearty pasta dishes, seasonal salads and irresistible daily specials, along with expertly-muddled cocktails.

Perhaps best of all is it's charming and elegant lounge, where you can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea of freshly baked cakes, scones, whimsical sweet treats and bite-sized finger sandwiches, all served on a three tier cake stand while you relax on a comfy sofa and gaze out at the ever changing sea. You can even indulge in a flute of champagne to wash it all down if you feel you really deserve it!
